Social Welfare Department, is an important Department of the state for the uplifment of Womens, Children, Divyangjan, Old age people and other deprived section for the protection and promotion of the society. The main objective of which to prepare and implement policies, action plans and programs as per the constitution, various Acts, Gazette and Rules for the integrated progress and development of mentioned groups. Social Welfare Department has been constituted as an independent department under govt. order no. 602 dated 20-03-2007. After its reorganization, four separate directorates came to exist under it. These are .. (a) Directorate of Social Welfare (b) Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services (c) Directorate of Social Security and (d) Directorate of Divyangjan Empowerment. In addition, Women Development Corporation(WDC) and State Society for Ultra Poor & Social Welfare(SAKSHAM) have also been functioning as an autonomous institution under this department itself.To protect the well-being of the divyangjan under the Disability Act, 1995 the office of State Disability Commissioner has also been put under the umbrella of Social Welfare Department itself. Various plans, programmes/projects have been launched for promoting the interest of women, children, Divyangjan, older person and other deprived sections of society by Social Welfare Department. Projects currently running various Chatra Yojna through Social Welfare Department as mentioned below (i) Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Evam protsahan Chatra Yojna (ii) Mukhyamantri Divyangjan Shashaktikaran Chatra Yojna (iii) Mukhyamantri Samekit Bal Vikas Chatra Yojna (iv) Mukhyamantri Bal Sanrakshan Chatra Yojna (v) Mukhyamantri Mahila Shashaktikaran Chatra Yojna (vi) Mukhyamantri Vrihad Sahayata Chatra Yojna (vii) Mukhyamantri Kanya Uthan Yojna

“Development of our state is not possible without the development of women as they are an important half of our population” By 2030, the Government of Bihar intend to ensure that women are respected and their dignity restored in all walks of life. The vision is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by eradication of alll structural and institutional obstacles and an equitable bias free society, discrimination and fear of violence.
