About Us

Bihar is a land of wisdom. The Department of Education , Bihar is responsible for preserving the glorious history of the state as used to be in the golden era of Nalanda University and Vikramshila University. The department is concerned with providing education and setting up related frames and infrastructure across the state. With five directorates and several apex bodies, the department has been working to create facilitative environment in which youth, women and others would explore their knowledge and skills by pursuing primary, secondary, higher and mass education.

With the implementation of The Right of Children To Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right To Education Act (RTE), the Department of Education aims to ensure free and quality primary education to all children in the age group of 6-14 years in the state and has initiated several innovative schemes like Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, Mukhyamantri Balak & Balika Cycle Yojana, Mukhyamantri Paribhraman Yojana,Mukhyamantri Poshak Yojana, Mukhyamantri Smagra Vidyalaya Vikas Yojana, Mukhyamantri Protsahan Yojana.

Education is the pillar upon which the fate of a country depends. It is the light through which all dreams and imagination can gain insight. The people of the country are soul of any nation; they should be looked as its valuable resource. Our development should be based on the integrated development of the citizen beginning with childhood and going right through life.

Earlier all concern and issues related to education was handled under Ministry of Education & Labour Department, but it was realized that ‘Education is the only way which enables people to acquire skills, knowledge, values and attitude necessary to become responsible and active citizen of India’. In pursuance of overall development, a new Ministry was created under a proposed name, Ministry of Human Resource Development, on 26 September, 1985, through 174 Amendment to the Government of India Rules 1961. The name itself reflects the importance of education in life and development of country.

Government of India directed State Governments to maintain their separate Ministry of Human Resource Development for better progress of the people of India as well as Country. Since then, he education related all concerns are controlled by Central and State Government through Department of Education.

Vision

The strength of the state is not only the revenue it generates, but also the education and the character of the people it maintains. Hence, Department of Education , Bihar has been functioning hard with the ultimate goals to regain its past glory in the field of education so that the state can retain the meaning of Bihar, i.e. walk ahead with confidence and prosperity spreading the light of education as used to be in Buddha’s era.
